According to Forbes, cybersecurity jobs are among the highest-paying and most in-demand careers, with various career paths such as cybersecurity engineer, information security analyst, information security manager, and IT support technician.

“Cybersecurity is a good profession with diverse career paths and high demand,” says Anuoluwapo Olawuyi, a Cybersecurity Analyst.

"I have always loved computer from childhood" - cybersecurity analyst explains his journey
As a cybersecurity analyst, he reflects on a journey that started with childhood curiosity and evolved into a thriving career fueled by passion and continuous learning.

The roots of Anuoluwapo’s fascination with computers stretch back to his early years. Even as a child, he found himself drawn to the allure of technology.

“When it’s computer-related, I am always interested. It’s something that has been there from childhood,” he reminisces. “It is just a new career path that I am pursuing,” he says.

Pursuing a career in cybersecurity requires a blend of technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and having a passion for technology and solving complex problems aligns well with the skills needed in cybersecurity

He explains his journey into cybersecurity was not merely a career choice; it was a labor of love.

“I learnt most of the things on cybersecurity myself. I watched YouTube a lot, with a few boot camps that I participated in,” Anuoluwapo shares, underlining the pivotal role that self-directed learning played in shaping his expertise.

The hands-on approach to cybersecurity became a cornerstone of his education, emphasizing the significance of staying abreast of the latest developments in this ever-evolving field.

Acknowledging the influence of friends who were already entrenched in the cybersecurity industry, Anuoluwapo expresses gratitude for the guidance and shared experiences that accelerated his learning curve.

He remarks that learning from those who had navigated the intricacies of cybersecurity firsthand proved invaluable, providing him with insights and perspectives that textbooks alone could not offer.

Anuoluwapo’s journey in the tech world commenced during his university days in 2009 when he delved into web development.

However, recognizing the rapid evolution of technology, he decided to diversify his skill set. “Tech is evolving, so now I need to update my skills,” he affirms.

Cybersecurity offers a dynamic and exciting career path, with roles ranging from ethical hackers to security architects, incident responders, cybersecurity analysts, and compliance auditors.

This realization prompted his transition from web development to cybersecurity, a move to ensure his relevance in an industry characterized by innovation.

“I also learned from friends who have been in the industry as well. They helped too,” he adds, underscoring the collaborative nature of the tech community and the importance of mentorship.

“If you love cybersecurity and have always been passionate about computers, you may want to consider a career in cybersecurity. It’s a rapidly growing field with diverse opportunities, and your passion for computers can be well utilized in this area,” he concludes.
