Berger Paints Nigeria has appointed Abi Ayida as the new chairman of its board following the resignation of Oladimeji Alo.

The appointment was announced in a regulatory statement filed at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by the company on Friday.

Ayida, who was first appointed to the board as a non-executive director on the 14th of December 1999, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Minnesota, USA and a Masters’ in Economics from Pennsylvania State University, USA.

He has extensive experience in the banking, insurance, retail and manufacturing industries, in the UK, USA, and Nigeria, and he is currently the managing partner for Vail Woodward Associates, a firm of international business development consultants.

According to the statement Alo resigned from the board to free up time for his other commitments.

“In his resignation letter, Alo cited as his reason, his desire to free up his time to devote more attention to his other commitments in the corporate world,” the statement read.

The resignation takes effect from June 7, 2018.

Alo joined the board of the leading manufacturer of paints and allied coatings in Nigeria, as an independent director on December 11, 2012. He was subsequently appointed chairman on July 17, 2014.

“Under his leadership, the board implemented a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening the Company for the challenges of competing in the 21st century,” according to the statement

Alo is also the managing director of Excel Professional Services, an independent director of ARM Life Plc. and an independent director of the Development Bank of Nigeria.
