DLM Capital Group, the developmental investment bank that provides innovative solutions to economic and social developmental challenges that impact the everyday lives of people, has called on Nigerian women to be their own fans and support system as part of means of identifying and mitigating the challenges of societal and workplace biases and stereotypes.
The investment banking firm, in commemoration of this year’s edition of the International Women’s Day (IWD), continued its unwavering commitment as it joined the global community to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also making a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
The one-day virtual session in which Ibukun Awosika, Nigeria’s foremost businesswoman and billionaire, as headline guest speaker, spoke on “Speaking up against gender bias and rejecting stereotypes”, was done in recognition of the importance of International Women’s Day with this year’s theme, “Break the Bias”. The development finance institution urged women to always seize all opportunities accorded to them for positive development in the society as well as for nation-building.
Awosika urged women at DLM Capital Group and in Nigeria to change the narrative of being stereotyped or limiting themselves because they are women or because society has compelled them to do so. “Women need to continually be their own biggest fans and not tear each other down,” she said.
Also commenting during the session, Kelechi Eke, head, operations, DLM Capital Group, urged women to use the opportunity to reflect and start some deep conversations, introspection and empathy towards the real issues and plights that women in the workforce face.
For DLM Capital Group as a development financial Institution and one of the leading players in the Nigerian capital markets, the institution has over the years maintained its support to women-owned enterprises as well as enabling a neutral playing field that gives a support system to women in the value chain of management, leadership and in the workplace.
