How do I get the best deal on standing fans?

Whether to be used in your home, office or wherever else, standing fans have become an important piece since its introduction into the Nigerian market. While some are not exactly worth the value attached to them, there are others worth every bit the selling price.

Essentially there are two types: Industrial standing fans and, General Purpose or Commercial standing fans. General Purpose or Commercial standing fans are designed to work in conjunction with heating and cooling systems in spaces where silent operation and aesthetics are valued, such as schools, churches, retail outlets, and offices.

There are generally different things people consider in choosing what type of standing fan to buy, such as budget, rotational speed, standing height and even the purpose for which the purchase is being made. Overall, in the market of standing fans, brands like OX, Binatone, Rashnik, Polystar, Fanafrik, Sonitec, QASA, Andrakk, Panasonic, Sonik and Century closely follow each other in rivalry, each offering a different competitive advantage depending on what is being sought for.

While this report focuses on General Purpose standing fans and a few variants of Rechargeable standing fans (which are now in vogue), it should be noted that both types usually come in 16inches or 18inches.

 

  1. OX 18 inches Standing Fan: OX is a leading brand in the Nigeria standing fan market. It is produced in China and distributed in Nigeria by many large scale electronic importers.

 

Strengths

  • It is a well-known and trusted brand in Nigeria
  • It can be easily found in large and small retail stores nationwide
  • It cost around N6,000; making it one of the cheapest brands in the market
  • It has a very high rotational speed
  • It is highly durable
  • It typically weighs around 3kg, which makes it relatively lighter compared to many other brands

 

Weaknesses

  • It is found of producing a screeching sound while rotating
  • Its fan blades are not as strong as many other alternatives in the market.

 

 

  1. Rashnik 18 inches Standing Fan

Strengths

  • It has one of the best attractive and aesthetic design
  • It has an effortless height adjusting mechanism
  • It has a strong aluminum blades
  • It produces low noise while in motion
  • The 18inche size cost around N7,000 in stores & warehouse, which is relatively affordable for its quality

Weaknesses

  • Its 5kg weight makes it quite heavy
  • It is not durable

 

 

  1. Binatone 16 inches/ 18inches Standing Fan

 

Strengths

 

  • It produces a minimal sound when in operation
  • It comes in various attractive designs and colours
  • It has a 3 and 5 blades variants which contribute to its speed and efficiency
  • It sells between N7,000 and N8,000, hence, very affordable for its quality standard
  • It is quite popular and available in both Binatone official and convenience stores across the country

 

Weaknesses

  • It is not so firm and tilts sideways while working
  • The 16 inches product is more common than the 18 inches type in many stores
  • It weighs about 5kg, which makes it relatively heavy compared to some other brands

 

              

  1. Fanafrik 18 inches Standing Fan

Strengths

  • It comes in many attractive colours and designs
  • It produces low/reduced noise while in operation
  • It has a very unique rubber and aluminum blades
  • It has good weight and is not heavy
  • It is very suitable for use in offices because it reaches a wider range.

 

Weaknesses

  • It is not so popular in the market
  • It sells for between N8,000 – N10,000. Hence, it relatively expensive
  • The rubber balance tends to break easily

 

 

  1. QASA 18 inches standing fan

Strengths

  • It has a rugged appearance and is better suited when a large area of space needs to be covered
  • It can be easily adjusted and comes with an easy to use remote
  • It has 5 blades which contribute to its speed and efficiency

 

 

Weaknesses

  • It produces much noise while in high-speed rotation
  • It is quite heavy compared to many other brands
  • Its design is not so attractive or appealing, and are mainly in dark colours
  • Expensive when compared to other competing brands as it sells between N17,000 – N20,000.

 

  1. Polystar 18 inches Rechargeable Standing fan

Strengths

  • It is a well-known brand and one of the leaders in the Nigeria market
  • It has 5 blades and high rotational speed
  • It is both attractive and appealing and designed with multiple indicators
  • Its rechargeable battery can last for many hours
  • It does not produce much noise when in operation

Weaknesses

  • It is very expensive as it sells for N20,000 in the dealers’ shop
  • It seems to be more difficult to adjust
  • The rubber balance tends to break easily

 

  1. Sonitec 16 inches Rechargeable standing Fan

Strengths

  • It is a rechargeable standing fan, with battery lasting up to 5hours
  • It can be easily adjusted to a suitable position
  • It has lightweight, and an easy to adjust knob
  • Its lightweight allows for ease of carriage, from place to place.

 

Weaknesses

  • It is only available in rechargeable variant
  • It does not reach or cover a wide range of space
  • It sells around N18,000 – N20,000 in many wholesale stores. Hence, may not be affordable to the low-income class
  • Its blades are very light/ fragile, and can easily bend and break.

 

 

  1. Century 16 inches Rechargeable Standing Fan


Strengths

  • Its battery lasts up to 4-hours when fully charged
  • There is the ease of position and height adjustment
  • It has 5 blades which contribute to its speed and efficiency
  • It is not too heavy to carry or move
  • It produces little/ low noise when in operation

 

Weaknesses

  • Its base is fragile and breaks easily
  • It can only be used with a power surge protector, to prevent the risk of spark
  • The rechargeable battery easily discharged
  • At a selling price of N18,000, it is not affordable for the low-income class who may desire it
