All is now set for the 2024 Emeka Anyaoku Annual Lecture series, which will be held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This year’s event promises to be an intellectually stimulating experience, with Anthony Kila, a renowned political economist and Commonwealth Institute Professor of Strategy and Development, poised to deliver the highly anticipated 13th edition of the lecture series.
The event, slated for Thursday, 3rd October 2024, with the theme “Imperative of Good Governance in Nigeria”, will be hosted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State , and has as special guest of honour, Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria and the UK Permanent Representative to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The event’s chairman will be Professor Joseph A. Ajienka, the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
The Emeka Anyaoku Lecture series is an annual lecture aimed at fostering ideas and conversations on good governance in Nigeria. It is in honour of the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and the current chairman of the group of eminent Nigerians known as “The Patriots.”
Confirming the event, Anthony Kila commented that he was delighted and honoured to be nominated to deliver this distinguished lecture.
The state Governors of Lagos, Anambra, Delta, Ogun, Edo, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Oyo, and Akwa Ibom, respectively, hosted previous lectures in the series.
The distinguished series has been graced by some of the most respected Nigerian intellectuals and public figures, including Prof. Anya Anya, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Prof. Pat Utomi, Prof. Ayo Olukotun, Prof. Hope Eghagha, and others.
Past series of the event have also been chaired by esteemed personalities such as Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Chief John Oyegun, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Governor Donald Duke, Prof Barth Nneji, and Sen. Ben Obi.
The venue of the lecture will be at Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, by 10 am.
