Nigerian states move to stop FG’s planned sale of 10 power plants

The power supply in Nigeria experienced another setback on Thursday, with the National Grid suffering a second collapse in just three days.
This disturbing development was announced on the official X handle of the National Grid, which simply stated, “Another Grid Setback Experienced.”

The latest power outage represents the fifth grid collapse in just over a month, marking an unprecedented wave of instability in the Nigerian power sector.
With four previous incidents occurring within a single week last month, this power cut brings the total number of grid disruptions in 2024 to 10 incidents.

Reports revealed that, as of 11 am on Thursday, a total of 22 power plants in Nigeria were only generating a meager 2,323 megawatts of electricity.
Moreover, the situation took a sharp turn for the worse as power generation plunged to 0.00MW at some point during the day.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirmed power outages across its network, with customers experiencing disruptions as early as 11:29 am on Thursday.
In a statement to its customers, the company said, “Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 hrs, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

While the most recent grid collapse continues to disrupt the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued an official statement explaining the reason behind this latest power outage.
