Air Peace Limited, West and Central Africa’s largest airline, has launched its highly anticipated Abuja-London direct flight operations, effective October 26, 2025, offering a round-trip fare starting at a remarkably competitive N1 million. This move positions the Nigerian carrier to challenge the pricing terrain on the lucrative Nigeria-UK corridor, where international rivals typically command substantially higher rates.
The new service marks a strategic expansion for Air Peace, which already operates a Lagos-London Gatwick route. By introducing direct flights from Abuja to both London Heathrow and London Gatwick, the airline becomes the first Nigerian carrier to serve both major London international airports from the federal capital.
According to Efe Osifo-Whiskey, Air Peace’s spokesperson, the N1 million return fare represents the cheapest fares ever on the route, coupled with a generous baggage allowance.
This pricing strategy stands in contrast to prevailing market rates. A quick survey of major international airlines operating flights between Abuja and London, such as British Airways, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines, shows typical economy class round-trip fares ranging from N1.1 million to N2.5 million or more, depending on the season, booking class, and stopovers.
For instance, some current listings for flights from Abuja to London with other carriers indicate fares often starting from around $700-$900 (approximately N1.1 million to N1.4 million at current exchange rates) for routes with connections, while direct flights can be higher.
Air Peace noted that its offering not only undercuts these prices but also introduces a unique convenience factor. Travellers from any of Air Peace’s domestic destinations across Nigeria can now book through-fares via Abuja to either London airport on a single ticket, eliminating the need for multiple bookings and baggage re-checks. Similarly, inbound passengers from London can connect seamlessly to a network of Nigerian cities including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Benin, Warri, Owerri, Kano, Yola, Gombe, and Asaba.
“This latest offer, round-trip fares starting from just N1 Million and unmatched domestic connectivity is yet another bold step in democratizing international air travel for Nigerians,” Osifo-Whiskey said. The airline asserts that this initiative provides a distinct competitive advantage, enhancing ease, efficiency, and value for passengers travelling between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Air Peace has a history of disrupting the African aviation market by pioneering new routes and challenging established norms. This latest Abuja-London service, with its aggressive pricing and enhanced connectivity, appears to be an intentional plan to capture a huge share of the market and make international air travel more accessible to Nigerian consumers.
