Leadway Assurance, one of Nigeria’s foremost insurance providers, has entered into a strategic bancassurance partnership with Ecobank Nigeria Limited to broaden access to bespoke insurance products through the bank’s diverse customer channels.
The collaboration is designed to embed insurance offerings directly within Ecobank’s financial service touchpoints, enabling seamless access for employees, customers, and small business owners. The partnership is expected to accelerate financial inclusion by integrating insurance into the day-to-day banking experiences of Nigerians.
According to a statement from Leadway Assurance, the alliance will offer Ecobank’s stakeholders a range of carefully tailored insurance products, including life, health, motor, and home insurance solutions. These services will now be available across multiple engagement platforms—physical bank branches, mobile applications, staff interaction channels, and other direct customer interfaces—ensuring convenience and accessibility.
As part of the nationwide rollout, selected Ecobank branches will serve as pilot locations, where trained product champions will support customers in navigating available policy options. These include Group Life Cover, Personal Accident Insurance, and Term Life Assurance—products designed to cater to both Ecobank staff and the bank’s diverse retail clientele.
In addition to increasing product accessibility, the partnership is also focused on enhancing insurance awareness. Customers will benefit from targeted education and engagement initiatives aimed at improving understanding and uptake of insurance products within Nigeria’s largely underinsured population.
Speaking on the development, Kikelomo Fischer, director of sales, retail and partnerships at Leadway Assurance, highlighted the customer-focused vision behind the initiative. “This collaboration is about making insurance simple, accessible, and part of everyday life. By working with Ecobank and leveraging their wide network, we’re bringing financial protection closer to people—right where they are, and when they need it most,” she said.
She added that the partnership is a deliberate move to narrow Nigeria’s insurance gap. “This isn’t just about operations—it’s a purposeful move to bridge the insurance gap in Nigeria. By combining our customer-focused solutions with Ecobank’s reach, we’re making it easier for more Nigerians to access the protection they deserve.”
Adeola Ogunyemi, head of distribution channels and sales, consumer & commercial banking, emphasised that the initiative aligns with the bank’s broader strategy to offer integrated financial services at Ecobank Nigeria, described the partnership as a key milestone in the bank’s mission to deliver comprehensive financial services under one roof. “We are delighted to partner with Leadway Assurance. This strategic collaboration aligns with our vision to create a one-stop hub offering robust financial services. Through this initiative, our customers will enjoy the convenience of accessing tailored insurance solutions alongside their banking needs.”
