itel expands CSR footprint with healthcare investment in Kaduna

Business a.m.

itel has expanded its corporate social responsibility footprint in northern Nigeria with the renovation of a primary healthcare centre in Kaduna State, as part of its annual Love Always On initiative.

The project, commissioned on December 13, 2025, involved the refurbishment of the Primary Health Care Centre in Makera South, including structural repainting, the provision of beds, mattresses, mosquito nets and bedding materials, alongside the installation of a solar-powered electricity system designed to ensure uninterrupted operations.

According to the company, the solar installation comprises a 16-kWh battery, a 12-kW inverter and 18 solar panels rated at 590 watts each. The system is intended to address chronic power shortages that constrain service delivery in public healthcare facilities, particularly for emergency care and cold-chain-dependent services such as vaccine storage.

itel said the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on health and clean energy, reflecting its effort to link community investments with sustainability priorities.

Dolapo Oloron-Nimbe, ATL marketing manager at itel, said the programme was aimed at delivering practical interventions in sectors with high social impact.

“Our focus is on improving everyday living conditions in communities where access to basic infrastructure remains limited,” she said, adding that healthcare was a priority area for the company’s CSR strategy.

Shirley Shi, marketing manager at itel Energy, said the provision of reliable electricity was central to improving healthcare outcomes, noting that power disruptions often undermine service delivery in primary health facilities.

Local officials welcomed the intervention. Bello Tanko, chairman of the Ward Development Committee, said the solar installation would significantly improve vaccine storage capacity within Kaduna South local government area. Shehu Tijjani, the district head of Makera, Chiroma Zazzau District, also presented an award of appreciation to the company in recognition of the upgrade.

The Kaduna project forms part of a broader slate of CSR activities undertaken by itel in 2025, including the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole in Kano State, the donation of learning materials to schools, and partnerships with community organisations in Lagos and Rivers State.
