Nigerian insurer turns to AI to simplify customer experience

Nigerian insurer turns to AI to simplify customer experience

Heirs Insurance Group has launched a multilingual generative artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, known as Prince AI, in a move aimed at simplifying how Nigerians interact with insurance services and improving customer experience.

The insurer said the new digital tool represents a significant milestone in its technology-driven transformation strategy and underscores its ambition to make insurance more accessible, inclusive and easier to understand.

The launch comes as Heirs Insurance approaches its fifth anniversary, marking what the company describes as five years of using innovation and customer-focused solutions to reshape insurance delivery in Nigeria.

With the introduction of Prince AI, Heirs Insurance says it has become the first insurance company in the country to deploy a multilingual generative AI assistant for customer engagement.

The chatbot is designed to provide instant responses to enquiries about the company’s products and services, while also answering broader insurance-related questions. Customers can use the platform to better understand policy options, evaluate their protection needs, and identify the most suitable coverage for their circumstances.

Prince AI supports a wide range of local and international languages, including English, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese, among others.

According to the company, the multilingual capability is intended to break down language barriers that have historically limited insurance penetration, enabling more people to access information and services in languages they are most comfortable with.

Beyond handling enquiries, the AI assistant allows customers to buy and renew insurance policies, initiate claims and monitor the progress of claims submissions.

The chatbot is available across several digital channels, including WhatsApp, the SimpleLife Mobile App, and the Heirs Insurance website, offering round-the-clock support.

Speaking on the development, Peace Okhianmhense-Philips, chief digital officer at Heirs Insurance Group, said the company is leveraging AI not just to automate responses but to create more meaningful customer interactions.

“Prince AI represents the next phase of our digital evolution. By embedding generative AI into our customer experience, we are improving speed and efficiency while making insurance more human and accessible,” Okhianmhense-Philips said.

He added that the technology will help the insurer anticipate customer needs and deliver intelligent support in real time.

The company noted that Prince AI is built on adaptive intelligence, enabling it to improve continuously as it interacts with users and provide more accurate and relevant responses over time.

However, it stressed that customers who require more personalised advice can still access support from human representatives, creating what the company described as a hybrid service model that combines automation with human expertise.

Industry observers say the adoption of generative AI could help insurers address some of the longstanding challenges facing Nigeria’s insurance market, particularly low awareness, limited trust, and difficulty in understanding products.

By enabling customers to communicate in local languages and complete transactions digitally, insurers may be better positioned to reach underserved segments and deepen insurance penetration across the country.

Heirs Insurance Group is the insurance subsidiary of Heirs Holdings, a pan-African investment company with operations spanning 24 countries and four continents.

The Group comprises Heirs General Insurance Limited, Heirs Life Assurance Limited and Heirs Insurance Brokers, serving both retail and corporate customers across Nigeria.

The company said the launch of Prince AI aligns with its broader mission to democratise access to insurance and advance financial inclusion through digital innovation.
