CLEA expands trade platform with global supplier payment solution

African cross-border payments fintech CLEA has expanded its digital trade platform with the launch of a vendor payment solution designed to simplify international supplier transactions, as the company positions itself to become a broader financial infrastructure provider for businesses trading across global markets.

The new Vendor Payments feature enables African businesses to pay overseas suppliers, vehicle auction platforms and shipping companies directly from their CLEA accounts, reducing the operational complexity often associated with cross-border commerce.

The launch comes as the stablecoin-powered payments company gains momentum across the continent, having processed more than $20 million in transaction volume within six months of emerging from stealth in December 2025.

The company said the new service has already been adopted by more than 50 businesses since its pilot phase, reflecting growing demand among African enterprises seeking faster and more efficient ways to settle international obligations.

The latest product expansion underscores the increasing role of financial technology firms in addressing one of Africa’s biggest trade challenges including access to seamless, affordable and reliable international payment infrastructure.

Businesses importing vehicles, machinery, equipment and other goods frequently encounter delays, multiple intermediaries and high transaction costs when making overseas supplier payments.

CLEA’s platform seeks to address these bottlenecks by allowing customers to make payments directly to approved international vendors through a single digital interface.

Initially, the service supports US dollar payments to selected suppliers in the United States, including vehicle auction platforms Copart and IAA, two major sources of automobiles imported into several African markets.

Customers fund their CLEA accounts in naira, convert funds into foreign currency through the platform and complete supplier payments without relying on multiple financial institutions or payment channels.

The system also incorporates preconfigured vendor information, enabling users to complete transactions by simply entering relevant payment references such as buyer numbers, lot numbers or invoice details before authorising payment.

CLEA said additional suppliers, payment destinations and international markets will be added as the platform expands.

The company views the product as an important step in its evolution from a cross-border payments provider into a comprehensive financial infrastructure platform supporting every stage of international trade.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sheriff Adedokun said African businesses continue to expand their participation in global commerce but remain constrained by fragmented international payment processes.

According to him, Vendor Payments is intended to provide businesses with a faster, simpler and more transparent way to pay trusted overseas suppliers while allowing entrepreneurs to focus on growing their operations.

Looking ahead, CLEA plans to broaden the platform into a global vendor network that will allow businesses to discover verified suppliers, manage invoices, build long-term trading relationships and automate recurring international payments from a single platform.
