PalmPay has introduced NightGuard, a new security feature that allows customers to apply additional verification to account transfers during late-night hours, as digital financial services providers continue to strengthen safeguards against unauthorised transactions.
The feature enables PalmPay users to set preferred protection hours between 11pm and 7am through the fintech’s upgraded Security Center.
During the selected period, transfer attempts require an additional verification step designed to confirm that the transaction is being initiated by the legitimate account holder.
Femi Hanson, head of marketing, PalmPay Nigeria, said the feature was introduced in response to the vulnerability customers may face during late-night hours, particularly when a phone is lost or fraudsters believe an account holder may be less alert.
“With many fraud incidents happening at night, particularly after a phone is lost or when scammers believe a customer may be less alert, it is important for users to have practical tools that can strengthen account security,” Hanson said.
He said NightGuard was intended to provide an additional layer of protection at a time when customers may be less vigilant.
“With NightGuard, PalmPay is laser-focused on protection during a time when users are typically off-guard. We will continue to educate users and give them more reason to feel confident about banking with us,” Hanson added.
NightGuard forms part of PalmPay’s “PalmPay Dey For You” security campaign, which focuses on fraud awareness and encouraging users to take advantage of the security features available on the platform.
The upgraded Security Center consolidates PalmPay’s security tools, allowing customers to manage protections for their accounts and transactions from a central interface.
The introduction of time-based transaction protection gives users the option of applying enhanced verification during hours they consider more susceptible to unauthorised activity.
PalmPay said it would continue to educate customers on fraud prevention while providing additional security tools to help protect their accounts.
As digital payments gain wider adoption in Nigeria, transaction security has emerged as a growing priority for fintech operators and consumers.
PalmPay said its latest security measures form part of efforts to make digital payments safer, in line with priorities set out in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Payment System Vision 2028.
The fintech said technology alone cannot curb fraud, stressing the importance of customer awareness alongside the security controls embedded in its platform.
NightGuard gives users greater control over when additional verification is required for transfers, while the upgraded Security Center consolidates key account-security tools in one place.
PalmPay said it would continue to expand its security tools and awareness initiatives as digital transactions become more widespread.
