Enugu Air has commenced direct flights between Enugu and Douala, Cameroon, expanding its operations into the international market and establishing a new air link between southeastern Nigeria and the Central African country.
The twice-weekly service begins September 23, with flights operating between Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and Douala International Airport.
The new route marks Enugu Air’s first international operation since the airline commenced domestic services in July 2025, as the carrier moves to expand its regional network beyond the Nigerian market.
Ugonna Agubuokwu, chief operating officer of Enugu Air, said the service would strengthen the airline’s regional network and provide passengers with a direct connection between southeastern Nigeria and Cameroon.
The Enugu-Douala service will operate on Mondays and Wednesdays, according to the airline.
Flights will depart Akanu Ibiam International Airport at 12:45 p.m. and arrive at Douala International Airport at 1:45 p.m.
The return service is scheduled to leave Douala at 2:30 p.m. and arrive in Enugu at 3:30 p.m.
Enugu Air said the schedule was designed to allow passengers travelling from Lagos and Abuja to connect through Enugu to Douala, potentially broadening the route’s catchment area beyond the Southeast.
The connection provides passengers from the two major Nigerian aviation markets with an alternative routing for travel to Cameroon while positioning Enugu as a regional transit point.
The Douala route represents a significant step in Enugu Air’s expansion strategy, following the launch of its domestic operations in July 2025.
The airline subsequently received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in March 2026, clearing a key regulatory requirement for commercial operations.
The move into international services comes as the carrier seeks to build on its domestic network and establish a broader regional presence.
For Enugu, the new route also strengthens the role of Akanu Ibiam International Airport as a gateway for international passenger traffic from the Southeast.
The launch creates a direct scheduled air connection between Enugu and Douala, reducing the need for passengers travelling between the two cities to rely on connecting routes through other airports.
The route could also support movement between the two markets for business and other commercial activities by providing a scheduled connection between southeastern Nigeria and Cameroon’s major commercial centre.
Agubuokwu said the service would expand Enugu Air’s regional network, positioning the Douala operation as the airline’s first step into international aviation.
The airline’s decision to operate the route twice weekly also gives it an initial presence in the regional market while providing a direct service for passengers travelling between Nigeria and Cameroon.
The commencement of international operations gives Enugu Air an opportunity to deepen its role in the Southeast aviation market while using Enugu as the base for regional connectivity.
The airline’s schedule, which accommodates connections from Lagos and Abuja, could allow passengers from other parts of Nigeria to access the new international service without travelling through Lagos for an onward flight.
With the launch of the Enugu-Douala route, Enugu Air moves into a new phase of its expansion, transitioning from a domestic operator into a carrier with ambitions for a wider regional network.
The service also places greater emphasis on Enugu’s international airport infrastructure as the airline seeks to develop traffic between southeastern Nigeria and neighbouring African markets.
