Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its new global chief financial officer, following the departure of Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down from the role to co-found a new venture.
Olufemi, who previously served as Flutterwave’s chief financial officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), will assume responsibility for the company’s global finance operations.
She joined Flutterwave in June 2025 and has since overseen financial operations across more than 30 countries in the EMEA region, working alongside Popat on the company’s financial strategy.
According to Flutterwave, the leadership transition will not alter its existing strategic priorities, with the company maintaining its focus on financial discipline, margin growth and sustainable profitability.
Olufemi brings more than 24 years of experience spanning finance, strategy and banking. Before joining Flutterwave, she was group chief financial officer of Access Holdings Plc, where she was involved in several major capital raising and corporate transactions.
During her tenure at Access Holdings, she led the raising of $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023 and a rights issuance programme in 2024 to support the recapitalisation of the group’s banking operations in line with Central Bank of Nigeria requirements.
She also played a role in mergers and acquisitions that resulted in the creation of the second-largest pension fund administrator in Nigeria, according to Flutterwave.
Commenting on the appointment, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, founder and chief executive officer of Flutterwave, said Olufemi had demonstrated the financial leadership required as the company enters its next phase of growth.
“Over the past year, she has effectively led Flutterwave’s EMEA financial operations and has a proven track record, particularly from her recent experience at one of Africa’s largest financial institutions,” Agboola said.
He also thanked Popat for his contribution to the company over the past two years and said Flutterwave supported his decision to pursue a new venture.
Popat’s departure comes as Flutterwave continues to expand its financial services business and strengthen its position in cross-border payments. The company has also made strategic investments, including its acquisition of open-banking company Mono.
Olufemi said she would focus on maintaining the company’s financial trajectory while strengthening capital discipline and profitability.
“Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course. We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability,” she said.
She added that Flutterwave would continue providing global finance leaders with greater control over working capital, as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement.
The company said the appointment reflects its succession planning and internal leadership development as it expands its financial infrastructure connecting African businesses to global markets.
Flutterwave said its existing capital allocation strategy and long-term financial objectives remain unchanged following the transition.
