Abdul Samad Rabiu, BUA Group executive chairman, has received the Edge Industrial Leadership Icon of the Year award at the Edge Awards 2026, as the industrial conglomerate continues to expand its footprint across some of Nigeria’s most critical productive sectors.
The award, organised by MarketingEdge, recognises Rabiu’s leadership in transforming BUA into one of Africa’s leading industrial groups, with investments spanning food production, cement, ports and terminals, construction materials and other strategic areas of the economy.
BUA Group also received the Edge Outstanding Industrial Brand of the Year award, recognising its contribution to indigenous industrialisation, brand development and Nigeria’s economic growth.
The two awards come as BUA’s publicly listed businesses continue to command a substantial presence on the Nigerian capital market. BUA Foods and BUA Cement, the group’s two listed subsidiaries, have a combined market value of nearly N24 trillion on the Nigerian Exchange.
The scale of the listed businesses provides a market-based measure of the expansion of the group’s industrial portfolio, which has increasingly positioned BUA across essential segments of the Nigerian economy.
Chimaobi Madukwe, the company’s group chief operating officer, received the awards on behalf of Rabiu.
He said the group’s expansion had been driven by a long-term commitment to local production and industrial capacity development.
“Our Executive Chairman believes in local production and in building businesses for the long term, and that belief has shaped BUA’s journey,” Madukwe said.
He described the recognition as an affirmation of the group’s investment strategy and its commitment to expanding productive capacity in Nigeria.
“For us, these recognitions affirm a journey defined by long-term investment, industrial expansion and an enduring confidence in Nigeria. They also remind us of our responsibility to keep building, creating jobs, expanding local capacity and delivering value at scale,” he said.
The recognition comes against the backdrop of BUA’s growing presence across manufacturing and infrastructure-linked sectors, with the group’s businesses playing roles in areas ranging from food security and construction materials to cement and logistics infrastructure.
Its cement and food businesses have also become significant publicly traded companies on the NGX, giving investors direct exposure to two major components of Nigeria’s real economy.
BUA Foods operates across key food-processing segments, while BUA Cement has built a major position in Nigeria’s cement industry.
The combined market value of nearly N24 trillion for BUA Foods and BUA Cement underscores the increasing weight of the group’s listed businesses within Nigeria’s equity market.
Market capitalisation, while influenced by share prices and broader market conditions, provides an indication of the value investors place on publicly traded companies.
The size of the two businesses therefore gives BUA a notable footprint in the Nigerian equities market, while their operations connect the group to sectors with direct implications for household consumption, construction and infrastructure development.
Madukwe said the group’s philosophy remained anchored on building productive capacity in Nigeria rather than pursuing short-term expansion.
He said the awards also carried a responsibility for BUA to continue investing in businesses that create jobs, expand local capabilities and deliver value at scale.
