The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has blamed its poor service delivery in recent times to its loss of power installation equipment worth N187 million to vandalisation in the last one month. It said the loss negatively affected its operations.
Jamilu Gwamna, the managing director revealed this at a KEDCO organised stakeholders’ enlightenment meeting with traditional and religious leaders on the importance of paying electricity bills.
He said the meeting was necessary in order to rub minds with the stakeholders on improved service delivery and revenue collection as he called on them to extend the message to their subjects in their respective domains, and urged them to preach the importance of prompt payment of bills for services enjoyed.
The company’s revenue generation is dwindling and its a source of concern for Gwamna, who said the company has been operating at a loss.
“We pay between N3.8 billion and N4 billion monthly as cost of the energy given to us, but we only generate between N1.8 billion and N1.9 billion as revenue from customers. So this is an indication that there is problem because as a company we are in operating at losses,” he said.
A breakdown of its revenue generation profile given by Gwamna, shows that 70 per cent of the revenue came from industries, while 30 percent came from other customers, who he said, hardly fulfilled their obligation of providing this revenue as they did not pay their bills.
