An online platform, iwemi.com has launched to digitize circulation and access to published works by book publishers and other stakeholders alike, with a view to giving global access to the contents.

Iwemi.com, according to the spokesman, Ejimofor Akah, is a one stop shop for the creation and management of digital schools and libraries for both government and non-government bodies as a single platform with millions of book titles.

According to him, as part of its value propositions, the platform would serve to convert physical publishing to electronic format and introduce digital e-pad with various educational materials for its readers.

He added that already, the platform has over a million titles including books, audio contents among others which are available to subscribers across the globe, noting that Iwemi.com is keeping the momentum to add more relevant books to the shelve.

He further stated that publisher, who subscribe to Iwemi.com, stand to gain many benefits which include elimination of project duplication, eliminating plagiarism and encouraging original work, cloud storage and back up of intellectual materials such as theses, dissertations and project works in cases of natural disaster like fire and rain water occasioned by storms.

Other advantages accruable from publishing on Iwemi.com, according to Akah,  “is that it would serve as a veritable digital platform for schools, give global visibility to researchers and project financiers, intellectual property protection leveraging the platforms DRM- Digital Rights Management, and allow the school to determine the sale price of each work.

“The schools and publishers would also enjoy accelerated and timely Royalty payment. The platform pays royalties on a case by case and not on an aggregated transaction basis.”

Akah also said that Iwemi.com is poised to contribute to the development of an empowered African community through knowledge acquisition.

According to him, the current learning ecosystem is bedeviled with many anomalies, observing that low reading habit across age groups, traditional hard copy publishing is still prevalent, supply chain and transportation is a bottleneck, there are limited libraries and weak purchasing power.

“In the light of this, our mission to be a recognized partner and platform for providing knowledge tools with the ultimate aim to drive education in Africa,” he said.

END.
