Bashir Jamoh, newly appointed director-general, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), on Tuesday assumed office with a pledge to engage more deeply industry stakeholders to come up with policies that would drive the maritime sector forward.
Jamoh was former executive director, finance and administration.
The new NIMASA boss, who made the pledge on his assumption of office in Lagos shortly after taking over from Dakuku Peterside, also promised to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor.

He said, “Since government is a continuum, we shall hit the ground running immediately. We shall study your handover notes diligently to ensure continuity of leadership for the sector,” he said.
Jamoh also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for finding him worthy of the appointment to serve with a promise not to let the industry down.
Peterside completed his statutory four years as director-general of NIMASA before being replaced.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Victor Ochei as the executive director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services at the agency.
A statement issued by Nkem Osu, chief press secretary to Victor Ochei, explained that the appointment which is sequel to the tenure expiration of the Dakuku Peterside led board that was inaugurated on March 10, 2016 also comprises a new director-general and two other executive directors .
“Ochei a former speaker of the fifth Delta House of Assembly is a consummate front-row grassroots politician, versed in diverse cerebral disciplines such as engineering, financial management, corporate governance, education administration, legal practice. He is also a pragmatic and prolific businessman and philanthropist extra-ordinaire,” the statement said.
