Nigerian mobile operator, 9mobile, has lent its support to the federal government’s drive for economic growth through its digital economy policy and strategy.
This was made known when Alan Sinfield, the company’s chief executive officer, led the company’s management team to pay a courtesy visit to Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s minister of communications and digital economy in Abuja.
Pantami, welcoming the team, commended the recent appointment of Sinfield as CEO of 9mobile, hailing him as a seasoned telecoms expert with global operational expertise.
“I read about your appointment on June 1, the same day it was announced, and I was excited because we need people with creative, analytical thinking and innovative ideas that will come and support us in driving the sector forward,” the minister said.
Pantami also applauded the Sinfield-led growth plan of 9mobile, pledging that the federal government will play its part by providing an environment that enables the telecoms industry to grow.
“I’m excited about your innovative ideas. Your plan is highly impressive, and I’m glad that you are ambitious,” the minister enthused, adding, “As a government, we will provide a more enabling environment for the industry and especially indigenous companies like you to thrive. We have many policies that are promoting indigenous investments and innovation that will positively impact the economy,” Pantami stated.
Speaking further, he underlined the efforts by the ministry to effectively boost broadband penetration as well as digital roll-out while assuring that the government will continue to wade in to tackle issues posing as challenges to mobile network operators (MNOs) and other stakeholders in the industry.
In his response, Sinfield thanked the commission for its support while 9mobile was undergoing a transition, as well as its ingenious role in regulating the sector.
In a similar vein, the 9mobile boss had made a courtesy call on Umar Danbatta, chief executive officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), at the commission’s zonal office in Ikoyi, Lagos.
