The board of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has tapped Yemisi Edun, its chief finance officer, as replacement for its embattled chief executive officer, Adam Nuru, who has stepped down from the position.

FCMB said on Wednesday after issuing a statement concerning the scandal which befell Nuru, its immediate past managing director, in the first few days of 2021.

FCMB appoints Edun, former CFO, to replace embattled Nuhu as CEO

The appointment of Edun, in line with regulatory requirement, will await regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the immediate assumption of office, the bank said in a statement.

Yemisi Edun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, and a Master’s degree in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. She kick-started her career in 1987 with Akintola Williams Deloitte (member firm of Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu) with the sole focus on corporate finance activities.

She is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA Charter holder.

Edun is also an associate member of the Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; a Member of Information Systems Audit and Control, U.S.A; and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.

Prior to her appointment as the new chief executive officer of the bank, she has worked as the chief financial officer (CFO) of the bank, after effectively functioning as the divisional head of internal audit and control in the bank, since she joined the bank in 2000.

Edun was also involved in the audit of banks and other financial institutions during her tenure as the chief financial officer; a position she held before she was appointed the bank managing director.
