Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has released the sum of N250 million – part of the monthly releases by the incumbent administration – for the settlement of 86 retirees in the state. This was disclosed by Francis Omotoso, the acting executive secretary, Ekiti Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD) at a news conference in Ado Ekiti.

The amount released, according to the PTAD boss, represents the outstanding pension balance for May and June as the earlier proposed scheme aimed at further paying the backlog of retirees’ gratuity through a negotiated discount has been abandoned with regards to the demand of the affected stakeholders who rejected the idea.

Emphasizing on the government’s commitment to the welfare of the people and elderly who served the state meritoriously, Omotoso reiterated the governor’s promise to regularly payout the sum of N250 million for pension payment until all outstanding retirement benefits are settled.

Peju Babafemi, the state head of service, in her remark, advised affected pensioners to be wise in spending their resources by expending their pension on veritable ventures that would improve their lives. “If pensioners carefully planned and manage their ventures well, it would guarantee a stable and comfortable future for them and their family” she said

She also commended the state’s commitment to the general wellbeing of pensioners whilst also urging retirees to continue supporting the effort of the government in order to rapidly develop the state and improve citizens’ life.

Similarly, Joel Akinola, the chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioner, Ekiti Chapter, expressed his heartfelt to the government for its effort directed at improving pensioners in the state while Akintade Margret, a pensioner commended the commitment of the administration to their welfare.
