Babatunde Savage retires from Guinness Nigeria board after 40 years of service

After over 40 years at Guinness Nigeria plc, Babatunde Savage FCA, retires from the company’s board of directors with effect from June 30, 2021, while Dr Omobola Johnson, former Nigerian Minister of Communication Technology and serving Guinness Nigeria Board member, will assume the role of Board Chairman with effect from 1st July 2021. Guinness Nigeria, in a corporate disclosure filed to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), revealed.

According to the disclosure signed by Rotimi Odusola, the company secretary, Savage has served the company in various capacities from being an employee who held various senior roles, climbing to the position of executive director and now to board chairman, a role he held for nearly twelve years.

Babatunde Savage, in his letter to the board in compliance with the applicable corporate governance regulations, expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to have been a part of the wonderful story at Guinness for over 4 decades.

“After almost 40 amazing years, my journey with Guinness Nigeria is coming to an end. Guinness Nigeria is and will always be family to me”, he said.

Consequently, the company has herewith announced the appointment of Dr Omobola Johnson, former Nigerian Minister of Communication Technology, country managing director for Accenture and serving Guinness Nigeria Board member, to assume the role of the Board chairman with effect from July 1 2021.

Commenting on the appointment, Omobola, who has over 30 years of experience from both the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy, said: “Guinness Nigeria is an excellent company with tremendous value creation opportunities, and I believe the refreshed Board and the Management Team remain committed to achieving outstanding performance and maximizing shareholder value.”

Meanwhile, John O’Keeffe, Vice-Chairman of the Board and President, Diageo Africa, thanked Savage profoundly on behalf of the Board of Diageo Plc., the parent company of Guinness Nigeria, for his invaluable contributions to the success of the Guinness Nigeria over the last forty years.
