Nigeria Social Insurance Trustfund (NSITF) said it is reviewing its training strategy to include changes in the mode of staff teachings with the incorporation of online learning for effective and inclusive results.
Noting that the staff of the insurance scheme will henceforth be exposed to more impactful courses both offline and online, Maureen Allagoa, executive director, administration, disclosed in Abuja that in addition to introducing different courses to members using online module, the train-the-trainer programmes will also engage members to ensure transfer of knowledge and continuous capacity building.
She also stated that the recent audit and subsequent redeployment of 300 staffers, after a careful consideration of their core competencies, skills and qualifications, is part of its effort directed at improving productivity, retooling, relearning, capacity building and also ensuring that all staffs work towards achieving the mandate of the NSITF, as she encouraged staff to maximize opportunity.
Justifying the essence of the upgrade, Ijeoma Oji-Okoronkwo, general manager and head, corporate affairs, noted in a statement, that the decision is as a result of the need for strategic reform in response to the allegations of misappropriation and embezzlement of funds levelled against the past management of the fund.
She, however, added that the changes are of two phases; the first phase involves the reconstitution of the executive management team that saw Michael Akabogu emerge as managing director/chief executive; Maureen Allagoa, as executive director, administration; Temitope Akinwale, as executive director, finance and accounts; and Modu Gana, as executive director, operations, respectively.
The other phase of the strategic repositioning of the NSITF, as approved by the presidential report, she added, was to implement a strategic reform and change management plan that will see the Fund stabilize, in addition to securing the much needed public confidence. She added that an essential part of the process was the redistribution of staff to departments that match their qualifications, experiences and competencies.
“Management is currently being trained on understanding regulations, processes and procedures for effective workflow and increased productivity in the public service, specifically designed to enhance the capacity of the management to deliver on its mandate while driving stakeholders’ satisfaction in government business.”
