Business A.M., one of Nigeria’s leading business publications, recently held a two-day in-house training for its editorial staff to familiarise them with real-time skills required for achieving goals in a tech-based media world.

The training programme, which took place on Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25, 2022, was held at the head office of the organization in Lagos.

Chinenye Nwabueze, lead resource person for the training, provided basic drills on business news writing, taking the editorial staff through a practical session on how to identify story-rich areas and squeeze out news stories that fit the vision of the publication.
Nwabueze, an associate professor of Mass Communication, journalist, blogger and YouTuber, ensured the sessions were interactive as the journalists asked pertinent questions on how to excel in the line of duty.
Olukayode Oyeleye, media consultant, journalist and policy analyst, who handled the evening session, discussed the relevance of the business reporter in a competitive, tech-driven media sector.
Oyeleye, who also writes the back page column of Business A.M. newspaper, responded to questions from the journalists on how they could build a successful career in the specialized area of business journalism.

The training continued through the second day, during which the journalists were acquainted with the inclusion of a YouTube channel to the stable of Business A.M., as well as a recap of news writing skills for business news platforms and a lecture on video content creation for the publication’s YouTube channel facilitated by Nwabueze.
Phillip Isakpa, founder and CEO of Business A.M., spoke on the need for the journalists to adhere to the organisation’s house style when writing stories to be published on the platform.
Isakpa also stressed the need for the use of intelligence in writing interpretative contents for Business A.M which would stand the publication out from among others.
At the end of the training session, the participants showed improved knowledge of the business reporting environment and real-time skills on how to report through a multi-media platform like Business A.M.
