9mobile, PlugInsure, AxaMansard boost Nigeria’s health insurance with SureCare

9mobile, one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications companies, working with PlugInsure and Axa Mansard is boosting Nigeria’s health insurance landscape with the introduction of an innovative product called SureCare.

The product is designed to make health insurance more accessible, affordable, and comprehensive for customers by offering a wide range of benefits, including access to quality healthcare, financial protection against unexpected medical expenses, and peace of mind knowing that customers and their families are covered in case of illness or injury.

The partnership between 9mobile, PlugInsure, and Axa Mansard represents a major step forward in the telecommunications company’s commitment to innovation and the delivery of services that improve its customers’ lives. By working with two of the leading players in the health insurance industry, 9mobile said it is able to offer SureCare, a low-cost health insurance plan that is accessible to customers with as little as N100 per month.

Kenechukwu Okonkwo, 9mobile’s director of products innovation and business development, expressed his excitement about the partnership and its potential to improve the lives of customers.

Okonkwo further elaborated that the launch of SureCare was motivated by research from the Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFIna) organisation, which revealed that despite having a large population, Nigeria has a low insurance penetration rate of only two percent. This figure is significantly lower than the average for the African continent, which is three percent. The research highlighted the need for innovative solutions to improve access to insurance in Nigeria, which is what the SureCare product aims to address.

According to Okonkwo, the research made it clear that accessibility and awareness are major factors preventing customers from purchasing insurance products, highlighting the need for innovative solutions in the insurance industry. He stated that this was one of the primary motivations for 9mobile’s partnership with PlugInsure and Axa Mansard, as they aim to provide a pocket-friendly health insurance service that will encourage more people to get health coverage.

Okonkwo added, “This collaboration with PlugInsure and Axa Mansard emphasises affordability, ease of access, and extensive coverage, directly catering to the diverse healthcare needs of 9mobile’s customer base nationwide. The health insurance service is accessible via the short code *1019#, and guarantees unparalleled benefits, particularly through a range of insurance plans tailored to the needs of our customers.”
