Insurance expert, Funmi Babington assumes CIIN leadership

Funmi Babington-Ashaye, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Risk Analyst Insurance Brokers Ltd, has been elected to assume the leadership of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

Seun Banwo, the Corporate Affairs Manager of CIIN, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Thursday, that Babington-Ashaye would officially assume the seat July 25 sequel to her election in June.

Babington-Ashaye is taking over from Lady Isioma Chukwuma after a two-year tenure from 2014-2017.

The institute, in a statement on its new leadership, signed by the Corporate Affairs Head, said the in-coming CIIN president had contributed to the development of insurance education and expansion.

“Babington-Ashaye had contributed to the development and expansion of the frontiers of knowledge in the Insurance Education and profession, as she has published a lot of insurance and risk management articles in leading newspapers in the country,“ CIIN said.

Babington-Ashaye, according to the institute has served on many committees, including Audit and General Purposes Committee, Activities Committee, Strategy Advisory Committee, Education Committee and Chairman Organizing Committee of the Inaugural Insurance Industry Mega Conference

“Presently she is the Chairman, College of Insurance and Financial studies, presently sits on the Board of Pearl Awards Limited.

“Babington-Ashaye was the former President of Entrepreneurs Organisation, Lagos Chapter (an international organisation of entrepreneurs with headquarters in Virginia USA),” CIIN said.

CIIN said Babington-Ashaye attended Lagos State Polytechnic and emerged as the best graduating Higher National Diploma (HND) student in Insurance Department in 1987.

“She also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA), 1995, an Alumnus of Lagos Business School, a Fellow of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and United Kingdom and a council member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria.
