Google has announced the rebranding of its AI chatbot, Bard, to Gemini. This comes as Google unveils more advanced features to enable users to experience its most capable AI.

The tech giant, while introducing its latest innovation in a recent blog post, said “Our mission with Bard has always been to give users direct access to our AI models, and Gemini represents our most capable family of models. To reflect this, Bard will now simply be known as Gemini.

While Bard (Gemini) was previously a free tool, Google is now introducing a paid plan called Gemini Advanced, which will be available in more than 150 countries and territories, but only in English for the time being.  The paid plan will give users access to Ultra 1.0, the largest and most capable AI model that Google has developed to date. According to Google, this AI model is better at complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, and following complicated instructions. It is also able to collaborate on creative projects

Introducing a new subscription for the Gemini era , Google said Gemini Advanced is available as part of its brand new Google One AI Premium Plan for N20,500/month, starting with a two-month trial at no cost. This plan, it stated, gives the best of Google AI and its latest advancements, along with all the benefits of the existing Google One Premium plan, such as 2TB of storage. In addition, AI Premium subscribers will soon be able to use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets and more.

Google highlighted that over one million users are already using features like Help Me Write to increase their productivity and creativity with Duet AI. The company also noted that Duet AI will now be known as Gemini for Workspace, which will be available to users with the Google One AI Premium plan. Through this, users  will be able to use the AI to enhance their Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet experiences.

“With Gemini on your phone, you can type, talk or add an image for all kinds of help while you’re on the go: take a picture of your flat tyre and ask for instructions, generate a custom image for your dinner party invitation or ask for help writing a difficult text message. It’s an important first step in building a true AI assistant — one that is conversational, multimodal and helpful,” Google stated.

In addition to introducing new AI features, Google pointed out that it is committed to developing these features responsibly. To this end,the company said that it has built safety into all its products in accordance with its AI Principles.  Google also disclosed that it conducted extensive trust and safety checks before launching Gemini Advanced.
