LG brings clean water to Abule Osun with solar-powered borehole

LG Electronics, a global leader in consumer electronics, has officially commissioned a solar-powered borehole in the Abule Osun community in Lagos, Nigeria. The initiative, tagged “LG Community Project” is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes aimed at supporting local communities and addressing their pressing needs.
The solar-powered borehole has a depth of 120 metres and a daily pumping capacity of approximately 40 cubic metres, and is equipped with a 3000-litre tank which is powered by renewable energy. This system ensures a reliable and clean water supply to the community, available 24 hours a day, addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity in the area thereby improving the overall quality of life for the residents.
The commissioning marks the second CSR activity by the company in Nigeria, demonstrating its commitment in giving back to the communities where it operates. The company plans to expand its CSR initiatives to other major cities across the country’s geopolitical zones and make a positive impact on the lives of many more Nigerians.
A symbolic ceremony heralded the official commissioning of the brand-new project, led by Hyoung Ji Sub, managing director of LG Electronics Nigeria, alongside prominent community figures, including Mohammed S. Fouani, manager of Fouani Factory, Hari Elluru, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, and Kasali Abiodun, chairman of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria ( (RTEAN) and youth leader of Abule Osun.
The ceremony was attended by community leaders, residents, and representatives from LG Electronics, who all came together to celebrate the beginning of a new era of access to clean water for the community.
Speaking at the event, Hyoung Sub Ji, noted that the company was proud to contribute to the development of the Abule Osun community. He added that access to clean water is a fundamental human right and that LG Electronics was committed to ensuring that communities like Abule Osun have access to this basic necessity.
Sub Ji noted that the company had already donated a solar-powered borehole to a community in Abuja and was doing the same in Abule Osun. He assured Nigerians that LG Electronics would donate boreholes to as many communities as possible in Lagos and other states before the end of the year.
The managing director of LG Electronics, added “We express our gratitude for the chance, appreciating the backing from our distributor Fouani Nigeria Limited, along with the Youth and Community Leaders, in aiding this community’s welfare. It is our aspiration that this borehole will not only bring happiness but also enhance health and stimulate economic development for future generations.”
Mohammed Fouani, factory manager of Fouani Nigeria Limited, stated that the donation of the solar-powered borehole was a key component of LG’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable development and enhance the well-being of individuals in Nigeria. He noted that the company’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves was evident in this gesture, showcasing the long-standing dedication to corporate social responsibility.

Kasali Abiodun, chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria Abule Osun, expressed his gratitude to the company, stating that the community was extremely delighted that LG had taken the initiative to provide a reliable source of water in the area.
Abiodun noted that despite having other companies operating in the area, none had shown the same level of corporate social responsibility, and he truly appreciated LG’s thoughtful gesture in providing water for the community. He added that the positive impact of this donation would be felt for a long time.
