NAICOM complaints portal sets new standard for insurance sector transparency

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has  introduced a complaint management portal, designed to empower consumers and streamline the claims process, thereby boosting transparency and trust in the insurance sector.

The latest initiative, according to the industry regulator, is aimed at boosting consumer confidence in the Nigerian insurance sector and ensuring that compulsory insurance policies live up to their full potential.

Olusegun Omosehin, the commissioner for insurance and chief executive officer of NAICOM, stressed that the launch of the claims portal represents a critical step in NAICOM’s ongoing efforts to promote a more responsive and consumer-friendly insurance sector. The commissioner also noted that the initiative is part of the commission’s commitment to effectively resolving all insurance-related issues and ensuring that complaints are swiftly addressed.

Speaking further on the recently launched claims portal, Omosehin explained that the user-friendly platform, “complaints.naicom.gov.ng“, serves as a one-stop solution for addressing all types of insurance-related complaints.

The NAICOM chief explained that the streamlined platform, which seeks to revolutionise the claims process, promises to alleviate the frustration and uncertainty that often plague consumers when dealing with insurance-related issues.

By enabling consumers to submit their complaints and grievances in a simple, efficient manner, NAICOM is poised to build a more transparent, consumer-centric insurance sector in Nigeria.

“The Commission is urging the public to effectively utilise the platform to reach out to the Commission on all insurance related complaints,”  Omosehin said.

Commenting on the initiative, a senior official at NAICOM noted that the search for the soul of compulsory insurance is a crucial aspect of the commission’s strategy to deepen the insurance market and foster consumer confidence.

According to NAICOM, by cracking down on non-compliance with mandatory insurance policies, it seeks to instil a culture of responsibility and accountability in both individuals and organisations.

The commission also stated that the initiative, which focuses on the enforcement of compulsory insurance laws, aims to ensure that all parties play their part in strengthening the insurance sector and creating a more secure and stable landscape for consumers.
