The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has expanded its education footprint with the commissioning of a N350 million 500-seat lecture theatre and four boreholes at Adamawa State University, Mubi.

The project, executed as part of ASR Africa’s broader commitment to addressing infrastructure gaps across tertiary institutions in Nigeria and Africa, highlights  the initiative’s growing footprint in higher education development and its drive for sustainable impact.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Augustine Clement, vice chancellor of the university, commended ASR Africa and its chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for what he described as a visionary intervention that would immediately enhance teaching and learning conditions at the institution.

“The university is thankful to ASR Africa and its chairman for this laudable donation. We will put the lecture theatre to immediate use to the benefit of our students and lecturers,” Clement said.

In his remarks, Ubon Udoh, managing director of ASR Africa, said the commissioning reflected the organisation’s mandate to deliver on its promises to beneficiaries of its education grants.

“Today’s commissioning of this 500-seat capacity lecture theatre here in Adamawa State University is a testament to ASR Africa’s commitment to supporting education, health, and social development across the continent,” Udoh noted.

Representing the ASR Africa chairman at the event,. Idi Hong, director of government relations, said the project was personally significant to Rabiu, who ensured it was completed despite recent economic headwinds.

“This project was dear to the heart of our chairman. It is evidence of his enduring commitment to building educational capacity and supporting human capital development,” he said.

Farauta, professor  and deputy governor, Adamawa State; Aliyu Idi Hong, director, government relations, BUA Group, representing Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of ASR Africa; Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State (centre); Mohammed Indimi, founder/chairman of Oriental Energy Resources; Augustine Clement, professor and vice chancellor, Adamawa State University, during the commissioning of the Abdul Samad Rabiu 500-seat capacity Lecture Theatre donated to Adamawa State University in Mubi, Adamawa State

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Adamawa State governor, joined by Babagana Umara Zulum, the Borno State Governor, commended the donation as a timely boost for the state’s educational development.

“This contribution by ASR Africa is commendable and worthy of emulation. The facility will improve the quality of learning, enhance teaching capacity, and expand access to water within the campus,” Fintiri said.

The lecture theatre, fitted with modern teaching aids, is expected to serve as a central hub for lectures, conferences, and academic engagements within the university.

Beyond the immediate infrastructure benefits, the project reflects ASR Africa’s long-term vision of strengthening the educational ecosystem and promoting equitable access to quality learning environments.

The Adamawa intervention is one of several educational infrastructure projects executed under the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, which provides targeted grants to universities to tackle infrastructure deficits and promote academic excellence.

Since inception, over 30 Nigerian universities have benefitted from the scheme, with grants ranging between N250 million and N2 billion, supporting projects that prioritise impact, sustainability, and institutional relevance.

At the university’s combined 15th, 16th, and 17th convocation ceremony, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa and founder of BUA Group, was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in recognition of his philanthropy and contributions to national development. The award was received on his behalf by  Hong.

ASR Africa, established in 2021 by industrialist and philanthropist Abdul Samad Rabiu, operates with a core mission to deliver sustainable impact in education, health, and social development. Through its strategic grant programmes, the organisation has become a key partner to governments and institutions in bridging Nigeria’s human capital and infrastructure deficits.

The Adamawa project marks another milestone in ASR Africa’s expanding intervention portfolio, reinforcing its role as one of the most significant private-sector-led education partners in sub-Saharan Africa.
