Auxano Solar powers Nigeria’s renewable energy  ambitions with global certification milestone

Auxano Solar, a pioneering Nigerian solar panel assembler, has achieved what has been termed a milestone after obtaining the IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 certifications for its photovoltaic (PV) modules. This accomplishment, awarded by the globally recognised testing and certification body TÜV Rheinland, signals a major turning point for Nigeria’s rising renewable energy sector, validating the quality and competitiveness of locally manufactured solar technology.

The certifications confirm that Auxano’s solar panels meet rigorous international standards for safety, performance, and durability, opening crucial doors to utility-scale projects and export opportunities while reinforcing confidence in Nigeria’s clean energy capabilities.

The certification process was made possible through the venture-building support provided by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), delivered in partnership with the All On Hub. The backing enabled Auxano to boost its technical operational capacity, and advance its mission to deliver high-quality, reliable solar solutions across the region.

Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, lauded Auxano’s achievement, stating, “Auxano Solar’s certification is a powerful demonstration of how local innovation, when supported with the right resources, can meet global standards and substantially support national development endeavours.” She added, “We are proud to have worked with GEAPP to support Auxano on this journey, which not only validates the quality of Nigerian-made solar technology but also strengthens the foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable energy future in Nigeria.”

This achievement is particularly significant as Auxano Solar becomes the first Nigerian solar panel assembler to meet the global benchmarks. It marks a pivotal moment for domestic manufacturing, challenging the perception that high-quality solar technology can only be imported.

Chuks Umezulora, Auxano Solar’s chief executive officer, expressed immense pride in the company’s progress and its broader implications for the energy landscape. “Auxano Solar is proud to be the first indigenous manufacturer to receive TÜV certification for its solar panels. This certification marks a significant milestone in building trust in locally produced panels in Nigeria,” he affirmed.

Umezulora stated further, “We aspire for Nigerian solar panels to be as highly regarded as Nigerian cables. Achieving the IEC certifications is a testament to our dedication to quality and innovation in the solar energy sector.” He believes this accomplishment will not only enhance Auxano’s market presence but also foster the development of the broader local solar energy value chain, ultimately making solar power more accessible and affordable for Nigerians.

The newly acquired certifications strategically position Auxano Solar to play a key role in high-impact energy access initiatives across the continent. These include Nigeria’s ambitious Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) programme. These initiatives, backed by major international partners such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), GEAPP, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), collectively aim to electrify 300 million people across Africa by 2030. It is believed that Auxano’s ability to supply certified, locally manufactured panels will be crucial for the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of these projects.

Since commencing operations in 2016, Auxano Solar has already distributed nearly 15 megawatts of solar panels across Nigeria. With a 100-megawatt capacity solar panel assembly plant located in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, the company is seen to be well-positioned to make a significant contribution to Nigeria’s transition towards a clean, resilient, and self-sustaining energy future.
