Climate security: Necessary global target through green actions

Securing the three major perspective-pillars (economic, social and environmental) that determine and solely influence the integrity of life sustainability on an already threatened planet earth, demands urgency for their respective modest realisation and for an overall effective performance towards climate security. These three pillars directly link very closely to climate effects and their global impact because they deeply affect the extent of climate impacts, in multidimensional manner and forms.

The sensitive issues of man’s existence, therefore, revolve around the safety measures established or as set up within the confines of policy & legal frameworks that govern and control human actions; which of necessity restrain risks excesses to life. However, these procedures are carefully observed and followed up at every stage of man’s daily activities (inclusive of man’s economic, social, political or physical/spiritual tasks and assignments) within the society.

Climate security, in essence, holistically avoids every aspect of safety-vulnerability in all actions of man that may create a long term pattern of adverse weather conditions within a given location or in any part of the global space on this planet. Climate security always (at all times) targets “green actions” that sustain recyclable operations to substantially maintain stability, be it in business (economic and commercial activities), about political issues, or in human/national security infrastructure. Climate security intrinsically engages multidimensional security activities on food availability, state security for protection of lives and properties, adequate energy supplies value chain, among many others. All of the above position the society to seamlessly benefit and enjoy a peaceful, physical and material utility at an affordable cost that enables life to go on uninterrupted into the future.

Judging by the United Nations’ efforts and schedules on climate change actions and measures of mitigation and adaptation, climate security appears uppermost in their agenda. The major reason lies in a known fact that without a base (in this context, the environmental space on the planet earth); which is the already threatened planet, all other subsequent efforts deemed to be made are classified to be meaningless or useless! It is on this note that the UN is fighting vehemently to have every aspect of the environmental challenges and issues that pertain to extreme weather conditions to be first and foremost addressed (as a matter of urgency). The environmental issues of degradation, devastation, and all manners of disruptions call for speedy mitigation and control. This requires the already multilaterally agreed and signed pacts by most nations of the world at various ongoing annual conventions and protocols. Another vital dimension to this global task of restoring back to “near normal” or the original environmental status quo, is from the angle of adaptation and human actions that would only speak green (very significantly) in every aspect of man’s future actions and moves, both in their economic and social activities.

The environmental climate adaptation by human activities must be practical and not rhetoric, if at all meaningful results are expected to be achieved. This again brings to fore the issue of energy that supports life, and also drives economy and prosperity (from daily commercial activities). This energy factor is basic and factual because, without it, no work can be done (everything remains static or will be practically brought to a halt). The green energy that is produced for consumption is part of the solutions to the global climate challenge, borne out of climate adaptation burdens with any of the following attractive characteristics of energy efficiency inherent as; recyclable, energy-saving and carbon reducing tendencies that support carbon balancing from emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). The great risks of climate change or global warming are contained (addressed or taken care of), once climate security measures (as outlined) are put in place, to check the further incidences of: temperature rise, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, frequently intense storms, droughts, and many other nagging adverse weather conditions that negatively affect lives (both humans and animals), and wreak havoc on livelihoods of communities in all parts of the globe.

This same energy factor is critically assessed from the dimension of affordability at the point of demand (considering the product cost and its availability). This aspect of a perspective-pillar among the rest of the two others, plays a very strategic role in an individual’s economy (considering disposable income of the consumer at the microeconomic level) and the global economy as well (looking at the bigger picture, macroeconomic wise). Among the poorer nations of the world, especially in Africa (and using Nigeria as a test case), climate security measures greatly favours the consumption of “green fuel” (CNG) to power the economy and drive prosperity.

Among several advantages as a cleaner energy of the future (although sourced as a fossil fuel in natural gas), CNG not only contributes in climate action of mitigation and adaptation in energy transition process but, significantly cuts down on cost of energy consumption (which is favourable to the generality of the vulnerable poor masses in African countries).
