Delta Assembly passes electricity power sector bill 2024 into law

Delta State House of Assembly has passed the Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024.
The executive bill which was given an accelerated hearing was passed into law on Wednesday after its third reading at the plenary presided over by Speaker Dennis Guwor.
Emeka Nwaobi ,the House Majority Leader, had earlier moved a motion for the suspension of Order 12 Rules 79-83 of the Standing Rule of the Assembly to enable it take the third reading and passage of the bill.

On moving the motion and seconded by Frank Esenwah, PDP member representing Oshimili North Constituency, it was unanimously adopted by the Assembly when put to a voice vote by the Speaker.
Addressing the Assembly after the passage of the bill, the Speaker noted with delight that when signed into law by the Governor, it would help to boost electricity supply and economic activities in the State.
According to him, ”The passage of this bill represents a significant step in improving electricity supply in the state.
”I believe the passage of this bill will promote living standard and enhance the overall well-being of the people of the State”, he said.
The Speaker lauded the lawmakers for their commitment and contributions towards the passage of the bill.
“Distinguished colleagues, I sincerely appreciate all of your support and contributions throughout the legislative process of this bill. I am grateful for your immense contributions for improving the electricity sector of the state,” he said.
