Do you have a side hustle?

Anything worth doing is worth doing badly — Andrew Carnegie

Before plunging deeper into the year and by which time people often forget what their financial goals are, my topmost priority is to make sure we all know what is required of us this 2026.

That’s particularly important if we must achieve the financial goals we’ve set for ourselves. By the way, hope you’ve set yours, if not, ensure you have them in place by the end of this month.

Knowing what to do early in the year is like setting your compass out before embarking on a journey. It’s equally similar to knowing the course contents when starting a new academic session. You know what you’re then facing in either situation.

So, folks, do you have a side hustle? There’re no two ways about it, it’s either you have one or don’t. Perhaps you’re like many others who have been thinking of having one. If you cannot answer yes to signify you already have one, make having it a financial goal. When it’s time to look back at the end of the year, you’ll surely be glad you have one to your name.

Of course, I’m not saying that you’ll be able to take off after reading this column. However, set a time table for when to do the launching. Ideally and in practical terms, plan A – remember last week’s piece? – should be to start your side hustle this quarter. Taking off anytime between April and June should then be plan B.

Here’s the thing, the side hustle doesn’t require renting a shop or an office or taking a loan from an online loan shark organisation. That being said , if you must borrow any money to get your side hustle off the ground , your bank or the bank of family and friends should be your point of call.

But aside from the capital, what you actually need to start a side hustle is your skills and your willingness to serve people with them. Just before glueing my bottom to the dining table chair to craft this column, my wife was telling me about a lady who charges a few bucks to run an exercise group that people join virtually three times a week.

In other words, this medical doctor does her side hustle early in the morning from the comfort of her home gym. Subscribers then log in from their respective homes. Can you think of a side hustle you too can run from your house?
