The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) has attributed the service disruptions experienced in some parts of its network to activities of vandals.
The DisCo also confirmed the arrest of eight suspected vandals for their involvement in a recent attack on electrical installations.
Emeka Ezeh, head, corporate communications, EEDC, who made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday, lamented bitterly on how the increasing rate of vandalism has adversely affected the company’s service delivery to its customers.
He commended the support of critical stakeholders and the various vigilante groups in tackling this ugly trend, even as he confirmed that most of the arrests were made by the vigilante groups.
Ezeh said the youths of Ulakwo community in Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State, recently arrested a suspected vandal identified as Nonso Sunday Nwajonta in possession of aluminum conductors (cables).
He attributed this success to the consistent engagement with stakeholders on the need to ensure that electrical installations sited within their neighbourhoods are protected from attack by vandals.
