The Taskforce Against Indiscipline and Illicit Activities, established by Olubunmi Kuku, managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has continued its campaign against illicit activities at the airports with significant presence at Murtala Muhammed International Airport recently.

The taskforce, targeting issues such as touting, rent-seeking, and airport extortion, aims to curb the rise of these illicit activities.

Speaking during the campaign, Henry Agbebire, co-chair of the Taskforce and director, Special Duties, at FAAN, emphasised the committee’s mandate to eliminate all forms of illicit activities across FAAN airports.

“Our campaign is designed to provide passengers with an improved experience. Gone are the days of ineffective raids; we now leverage modern technology, including Clean sed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and body cameras, to ensure a sustained and effective approach. The managing director has prioritised exceptional customer experience, and our taskforce is pivotal in achieving this goal,” Agbebire said.

To further enhance passenger engagement, QR codes have been strategically placed throughout the airport, enabling travellers to report any illicit activities directly.

This initiative, combined with the taskforce’s collaboration with various security agencies, aims to create a safer and more disciplined airport environment.

“The campaign’s visibility was evident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, particularly in the baggage area of the E-Wing arrival hall, where an electronic screen displayed prominent campaign slogans such as “Say no to airport touting,” “Say no to airport harassment ,” and Say no to indiscipline and illicit practices.” Roll-up banners, posters, flyers, and stickers were also prominently displayed in strategic areas.

“The taskforce’s ongoing efforts and use of modern technology represent a comprehensive approach to eradicating indiscipline and illicit activities at Nigeria’s airports. The campaign promises to intensify until these issues are fully addressed, ensuring a safer and more efficient airport experience for all passengers.”, he added.
