The federal government has announced closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos from midnight of Saturday, October 21 to midnight Sunday, October 22 to carry out crucial repairs.
Olukorede Kesha, the federal controller of works in Lagos state, in a statement, explained that the closure is part of the government’s plan to undertake comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge, including repairs to critical sections.
Kesha explained that to minimize disruption, the ministry will be conducting palliative work on the most severely damaged sections of the Adeniji bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22, before the comprehensive repair work begins.
She also advised motorists to follow traffic rules and obey the directions of traffic management officials to ensure smooth movement, while noting that the ministry appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during the closure.
Due to the palliative work on the Third Mainland Bridge, motorists are advised to use alternative routes from Saturday, October 21, at 12:00 a.m. until Sunday, October 22. These routes include the Carter, Eko, or Lekki bridges to access the Island, and the Machine-Ojota-Oworonshoki-Oshodi-Apapa road or the inner roads for access to the Mainland.
The government said it regrets any inconvenience caused by the bridge closure and appreciates the public’s understanding.
