Flight operations are returning to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, popularly known as Enugu International Airport, after the federal government’s airport authority, FAAN, announced it has completed emergency repairs on its runway.
The airport was shut last week by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) over a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.
Obiageli Orah, director of public affairs & consumer protection at FAAN, in a statement, explained that the work was scheduled to begin on April 22nd and conclude before reopening on May 6th, 2025. However, rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs by the engineers working with FAAN.

FAAN thanked all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time.
It also apologised for the inconvenience but assures the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.
The sudden and brief closure of the airport had caused diversion of flights by Air Peace and United Nigeria to Asaba and Anambra airports, causing disruptions to passengers’ schedules.
