L-R:  Luke Jones, assistant manager, climate and environment; Rhianna Wiemer, sustainability consultant; Ishika Srivastava, sustainability consultant; Innocent Okwuosa, chairman, NIRC; Rabiu Olowo, executive secretary, Financial Reporting Council, Nigeria; William Hughes, global climate and environment lead,  Iheanyi Anyahara, secretary/ trustee, NIRC; Modupeoluwa Williams, sustainability senior, after a carbon accounting training organised by CSA Consulting and Management Services Ltd in London.

The leadership team of Nigeria’s Financial Reporting Council – Nigerian Integrated Reporting Committee (FRC-NIRC) has deepened its expertise in sustainability disclosure and climate risk reporting following an intensive training programme in carbon accounting, organised by CSA Consulting and Management Services Ltd in London.

As part of the capacity-building initiative, the delegation visited Forvis Mazars UK’s Innovation Lab at the firm’s London office, 30 Old Bailey, where they held a collaborative session on emissions measurement and climate risk analysis; two core elements of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) sustainability disclosure framework.

The discussions centred on the practical challenges of implementing IFRS S1 and S2 standards in Nigeria, which set new global benchmarks for corporate sustainability transparency. The FRC-NIRC team explored how data-driven tools and digital innovation could strengthen Nigeria’s emerging sustainability reporting infrastructure.

The training and study visit form part of FRC’s institutional development agenda, underpinned by a memorandum of understanding with NIRC focused on awareness creation, advocacy, and capacity building to support full adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 across Nigeria’s corporate sector.
