Gavin Young becomes Chams new CEO

Gavin Young has been appointed as the new group managing director/Chief Executive Officer of Chams Plc effective from November 1, 2019, a statement from the firm stated.
This followed retirement of Sunday Olufemi Williams as the GMD/CEO of the company after 28 years of meritorious service.
According to the statement signed by Yetunde Emmanuel, company secretary, Williams has embarked on a three-month terminal leave starting from September 2, 2019, which makes Young to assume the vacant position in an acting capacity with immediate effect. This is to ensure proper handover.
Commenting on the appointment of his successor, Williams said, “I am very confident in the capacity of Gavin to lead Chams to the next level and assure all our stakeholders of a smooth transition as Gavin already understands the system.”
Young is a seasoned Fintech professional with a proven track record in managing companies with specific focus on all areas of electronic banking and Fintech.
His career cuts across 20 years at First National Bank of South Africa, 7 years at Visa as Country Manager, sub-Saharan africa (South Africa, UK and Nigeria).
In 2007, he joined UBA as senior general manager cards and since 2009, he has worked (on a full-time and part-time basis) with the Chams Plc Group of companies as Managing Director of ChamsSwitch and Deputy Managing Director of Chams Mobile, amongst other roles.
