The Kano State government has announced the release of over $900,000 to facilitate agricultural development projects in Nigeria’s most populous state.
Junaidu Yakubu Mohammad, managing director, Kano State Agricultural Development Agency (KNARDA), made the disclosure during a recent training programme on partnership building, participatory and extension approaches to strengthening the working relationships in actualising the goals of Kano State Agricultural Development Project (KSADP), jointly organised by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), in collaboration with other agricultural development partners in the state.
The KNARDA managing director explained that $500, 000 was earmarked for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), while the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) would receive over $400,000 for the effective implementation of the Kano State Agricultural Development Project (KSADP) funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
He stressed that the fund is for full implementation of the programme in terms of effective achievement of the desired objectives as well as training of extension agents in the state.
In his remarks, Hakeem Ajeigbe, country representative, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), noted that the training of the partners on partnership building as well as an effective understanding of the extension approach would go a long way in strengthening the working relationship for effective goal realization.
He thereafter enjoined all participants to utilise the opportunity of the training and make good use of what they will learn to improve the state agricultural output.
