LG Electronics, an eco-friendly electronics manufacturing giant, has reaffirmed its dedication to improving lives by providing sustainable access to clean water for Nigerian communities facing severe water shortages.

In its latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the company has commissioned its eighth solar-powered borehole, this time benefiting the people of Ayeye Community in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The project, aimed at easing the burden of water scarcity, has been received with immense gratitude by the community. Residents of Ayeye welcomed the initiative with excitement, recognising it as more than just a relief measure but a step towards long-term sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Lateef Akintola, Mogaji of the Balogun Ibikunle family, expressed appreciation for LG Electronics’ generosity.

“We are deeply grateful for this remarkable contribution. While many companies operate in Oyo State, few have taken such a proactive approach to supporting communities in need. This initiative is not just about providing clean water; it’s a major step towards improving our quality of life. LG’s commitment to deploying solar energy for a sustainable water supply is commendable, and we consider this borehole a true lifeline.”

Paul Mba, corporate marketing manager at LG Electronics, highlighted the company’s focus on leveraging technology for social impact.

“Access to clean water is a basic necessity, and we are committed to making it available to as many people as possible. Through innovations like this solar-powered borehole, we not only provide safe drinking water but also alleviate the daily struggle of fetching water, especially for women and children.”

Mba further emphasised that the initiative aligns with LG Electronics’ broader corporate social responsibility efforts, reinforcing its dedication to sustainability and community development.

Also present at the commissioning was Wasiu Ajani Olatunbosun, the commissioner for culture and tourism in Oyo State. He acknowledged the importance of continued corporate involvement in addressing community needs, particularly after the success of a previous borehole installation in the Agba-Akin Community.

“We sincerely appreciate LG Electronics for responding to our call once again. It is encouraging to see companies invest in projects that directly improve the lives of the people. This kind of commitment to corporate social responsibility plays a crucial role in community development.”

A key partner in this project, Fouani Nigeria Limited, has played a vital role in supporting LG Electronics’ nationwide clean water initiative. Jad Atwi, the Ibadan Branch Manager, highlighted the power of collaboration in driving positive change.

“This borehole stands as proof of what can be achieved when organizations join forces for a common goal. We are proud to support LG Electronics in this mission and look forward to more initiatives that promote sustainability and community well-being.”

As LG Electronics continues its efforts to address environmental and social challenges, the company remains steadfast in its mission to improve lives through sustainable innovation. True to its vision of making “Life’s Good,” LG is committed to expanding initiatives that enhance well-being and create lasting impacts across Nigeria.
