MTN Group has partnered with Meta to improve the quality and reliability of voice and video calls on real-time communication platforms such as WhatsApp.
The collaboration is aimed at delivering a smoother, more stable, and higher-quality calling experience for users.
Set to span 12 markets, the initiative is kicking off in Nigeria, where early deployments have already resulted in significant improvements. Since the conclusion of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, engineers from MTN and Meta have conducted extensive testing and data analysis to close performance gaps. These efforts have led to the introduction of network enhancements that deliver stronger and more consistent call quality, without compromising the efficiency of data traffic delivery.
Nigeria is the first country to implement the enhancements, and initial results show a 50 per cent improvement in key performance indicators (KPIs), leading to a more satisfying experience for MTN users.
Yahaya Ibrahim, chief technology officer at MTN Nigeria, stated: “This implementation further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our customers’ digital experience. We’re pleased with the remarkable improvement in our real-time communication services, reflecting our commitment to innovative customer solutions.”
Similarly, Diego Marí, head of Network Ecosystems Engineering at Meta, added: “The collaboration allows us to deploy advanced solutions for an unparalleled real-time experience in Nigeria and showcases our dedication to elevating service quality and improving user experience, while striving for continued efficiency in traffic delivery.”
