The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has begun developing capacity for its flight calibration unit with the training of two pilots who were formally presented to Umar Farouk, managing director of the agency, recently.
The calibration unit was established in NAMA after the agency took over the calibration aircraft from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority in 2019 under former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika.
Speaking shortly before the presentation of the pilots to the NAMA boss, the general manager incharge of flight calibration services, Selzing Miri, said the agency, in dire need of calibration aircraft pilots, sponsored two pilots to Dubai for a type rating training on the King Air 350i aircraft used for the flight calibration exercise.
He noted that the MD has been very passionate about developing the unit adding that he has pledged his support in developing them to full fledged calibration pilots.
Miri, who is also the president of the National Association of Air Traffic Engineers, said it will be a continuous exercise until the country’s flight calibration becomes fully functional.
According to him, “the flight calibration unit comprises pilots, aircraft engineers and flight inspectors,” adding that “while flight inspectors training is already advanced and preparing for checking out by their foreign partners soon,” Nigeria is gradually moving towards attaining the capacity and capacity of rendering services also to other countries.
