The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has intervened in the planned strike by Aviation security and logistics sub-sector scheduled to commence today, Wednesday.
The apex regulatory body, it was learnt, asked for a week extension on the matter in order to address the issue raised by National Union of Air Transport Employees ( NUATE).
Comrade Ocheme Aba, NUATE general secretary confirmed the development. He said Capt. Musa Nuhu, DGCA intervened by asking for a week’s extension
“The union has asked members to stay action on the strike, which was expected to commence this afternoon. The union awaits official letter from NCAA on its intervention.”, he said.
The union has been on the issue for over two years
NUATE had on Tuesday, directed its members in Aviation Security (AvSec) and logistics sub-sector of the aviation industry in Nigeria, to withdraw their services beginning from Wednesday indefinitely over poor welfare.
The union had claimed that ‘the managements of all the companies in the business have all failed to secure decent contracts that can avail fair remuneration for their workers. With current salary levels as low as N30,000 a month for graduates, there is no gain saying that AvSec employment in Nigeria is nothing other than a slave labour camp’.
