The federal government has approved an increase in the cost of obtaining a passport, with a 32-page passport to be priced at N50,000 and a 64-page passport costing N100,000.
The new price regime was confirmed by KT Udo, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, in a statement released recently in Abuja.
In addition to the announced price increases, Udo stated that the federal government’s decision was made in an effort to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. He further confirmed that the new prices will go into effect on September 1, providing a clear timeline for implementation of the policy change.
The NIS spokesperson stated: “Based on the review, a 32-page Passport booklet with 5-year validity previously charged at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (₦35,000.00) will now be Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000.00) only; while a 64-page Passport booklet with 10-year validity which was Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000.00) will be One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000.00) only.
