Pernod Ricard Nigeria, a subsidiary of the globally renowned Pernod Ricard group, a leader in wines and spirits, and Let’s Do It Nigeria recently collaborated to conduct a significant clean-up effort in Marwa, Lekki, in commemoration of World Cleanup Day.

The World Cleanup Day is an annual global event which aims to support advocacy to create a shift towards better management of resources and inspire smarter choices in design, production, and consumption.

“We share a world of finite resources, under huge pressure. At Pernod Ricard, we minimise waste at every step by imagining, producing, and distributing our products and experiences in ways that optimise and help preserve natural resources,” said Sola Oke, managing director, Pernod Ricard Western Africa.

“In line with this ambition, we are “UNBOXING” Jameson Irish Whiskey and Imperial Blue Whisky, doing away with their single bottle cartons, to reduce the environmental impact of our products by reducing waste. This aligns with our circular making strategy which applies five key principles at each step of product lifecycle: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect.”

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of Pernod Ricard Nigeria employees and volunteers, who came together to clean and beautify their community.

Seun Osikalu, the founder of ‘Let’s Do It Nigeria,’ expressed gratitude to all participants in the clean-up operation while emphasising the significance of living by the 5 Rs. “As a society and as individuals, it is imperative that we not only clean our environment but also live in harmony with the 5Rs to safeguard and preserve our planet,” stated Seun. “The 5Rs encompass: Rethink—being environmentally conscious before making any purchase; Refuse—rejecting non-biodegradable and unnecessary materials; Reduce—only purchasing what is essential; Reuse—re-utilizing packaging, whenever possible; and Recycle—recycling materials and prioritising items made from recyclable materials.”

The clean-up operation strongly aligns with Pernod Ricard’s Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap for 2030, specifically under the Circular Making pillar. It represents an enduring commitment to environmental sustainability, ensuring a healthy future for Nigerians and global societies alike.

“We believe in the power of collective action to drive positive change,” affirmed Dolapo Onasanya, the Head of Human Resources, Pernod Ricard Western Africa. “Participating in World Cleanup Day perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainability and community engagement. We are thrilled to make a meaningful impact on the environment and inspire others to do the same.”

Pernod Ricard Nigeria encourages everyone to join the cause and participate in World Cleanup Day activities within their communities. Together, we can contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier planet for present and future generations.
