PoshClick Foundation commences skills acquisition initiative to empower Nigerian students

PoshClick Foundation, a registered non-governmental organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of young people in underserved communities, is set to launch a practical and impact-driven empowerment programme for secondary school students in Lagos. The five-day initiative, titled “Youth Empowerment Through Life & Vocational Skills” and themed “Skill Up, Stand Out,” will run from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1, 2025, aiming to provide alternative pathways to success for students who may not pursue higher education.

Designed specifically for senior secondary students who may lack the resources to advance to tertiary institutions, the programme seeks to equip participants with creative vocational skills and essential life tools.

Through this intensive initiative, over 120 students will gain hands-on exposure to income-generating skills, including photography, videography, digital literacy, fashion styling, and makeup artistry, among others. The curriculum combines technical skills training with l personal development, ensuring participants not only acquire valuable practical abilities but also cultivate the confidence and mindset necessary for long-term success. Students will engage in life-building sessions covering leadership, effective communication, professional etiquette, entrepreneurship fundamentals, and financial literacy, all designed to strengthen their personal growth and professional readiness.

The inaugural day of the event was held at the Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Secondary School, Ojodu, Lagos. Speakers at the launch included Tolagbe Martins, a renowned Nigerian connector and communicator, who addressed the students on the critical art of effective communication skills required for navigating the professional world.

Kola Oshalusi, creative director of Insignia Media, also participated, urging students to embrace skills acquisition as a vital complement to academic pursuits, emphasising its role in boosting financial success. The renowned creative photographer exemplified his own career trajectory as a testament to the power of continuous improvement, noting that practice actually makes people better at what they do, rather than pursuing perfection.

Jokotade Shonowo, founder of PoshClick Foundation, spoke on the core philosophy behind the initiative: “We believe that skills are the new currency and that talent is equally distributed, but opportunities are not.” She further stated, “PoshClick Foundation bridges this gap by delivering comprehensive programs that combine technical skills training with personal development. Every student deserves a shot at success, not just through formal education, but through hands-on learning and real-world mentorship. That’s the future we’re building.”

The programme will be conducted across partnering secondary schools in Lagos for the opening and closing days, while the core skill acquisition workshops will be held at the Skooqs Technology and Creative Center in Ogba, Lagos State.

Students will be grouped into vocational teams to execute real-world projects, including photoshoots, video content creation, and styling showcases, providing practical experience and portfolio-building opportunities.

The initiative will culminate in a student showcase, an awards presentation, and, crucially, the launch of internship and mentorship placements for top-performing participants. This structured follow-up aims to create ripple effects that extend far beyond the initial training days, facilitating sustained growth and professional integration for the beneficiaries.
