Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the country’s apex standards body has advised local manufacturers to ensure that their products go through its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certification to standardise their products.
Enebi Onucaeyo, head enforcement unit of SON, who gave the advice noted that standard adherence facilitates trade.
He warned that the unit is ready to destroy any product that does not meet standard, while the producer would be prosecuted.
Onucaeyo, while addressing participants at a day sensitisation programme on the importance of SON regulatory activities in economic development, held in Aba, Abia State, urged local manufacturers to be proud of their products, by embossing their logo on their products.
Manufacturers should respect Nigeria standards, he said, and noted that certification ensures business growth.
Dosumu Tijani, head, border operations, South-East/ South-South, SON, revealed that the federal government has returned the standards body back to the ports.
According to him, SON’s removal from the port led to loss of revenue for Nigeria.
He called for collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria enjoys quality products.
