As the impacts of climate change become more pronounced and widespread, it is increasingly clear that addressing mental health is a critical part of ensuring environmental resilience.
To this end,Sydani Group, a management consulting firm and the Mental Health with Ditty Foundation (MHWDF), a non-governmental organisation, have stood out as shining examples of collaboration, forging new ways to address the interconnected issues of environmental sustainability and mental health, amid the crucial climate negotiations at COP28.
The partnership between MHWDF and Sydani Group was officially launched at a ceremony held recently at the Sydani Group headquarters in Abuja, marking a new chapter in addressing the mental health consequences of climate change.
To further demonstrate the shared commitment to tackling these pressing issues, MHWDF is hosting a special event at COP28 UAE, generously sponsored by Sydani Group. This event will bring together leading experts, advocates, and policymakers to discuss the latest research and strategies for addressing the mental health effects of climate change.
The side event at COP28 UAE will also see the launch of two innovative initiatives spearheaded by MHWDF and supported by Sydani Group. The “Mental Health Resilience” initiative seeks to equip communities with the knowledge and resources to cope with the mental health challenges associated with climate change. It is designed to build resilience and promote well-being among individuals, families, and communities. The second initiative, “Psychological and Emotional Well-being for Women and Youths,” aims to address the specific vulnerabilities of women and young people in the context of climate change impacts.
Adedotun Esan, the founder and chief advocate of Mental Health with Ditty Foundation, expressed her excitement about the partnership and its potential impact.
“By acknowledging and addressing the mental health dimensions of climate change, we hope to contribute meaningfully to building resilient and healthier communities worldwide,” she remarked.
Sidney Sampson, the managing partner of Sydani Group, underscored the value of the partnership, stating that it allows both organizations to tackle the complex issue of climate change and mental health in a more comprehensive and inclusive way
The world is facing unprecedented challenges as a result of climate change, but the partnership between MHWDF and Sydani Group offers a glimmer of hope. The organisations’ shared vision and commitment to holistic solutions that prioritise the environment and mental health stand as a beacon of light in these uncertain times. In addition, the COP28 side event provides a platform for the organisations to showcase their work and inspire others to take action on these critical issues.
